Tiger II production turret

For some reasons I'm not that much into modelling lately but I managed it to build a small and easy kit over the last few days: Revell's 1/72 Tiger II with Henschel turret. I also used a pe-set from Voyager and added some details here and there, mostly from scratch. Sadly the kit's tracks are about half of a link too short (or maybe I'm just too stupid to assemble them correctly) and I will have to think of a solution for this problem. The Tiger will receive a three tone hard edged camouflage inspired by Mirko Bayerl's well-known and great rendition of a Tiger of s.SS.Pz.Abt. 501 in Hungary.

Well, as it seems I've forgotten to post some pics of my finished E-25.

So, as the last blog-update of the year, I decided to share the model with you, I hope you like it a bit ;)

Some words about ther model:

The E-25 is a slightly converted version of the Trumpeter plastic model.

I scratched a completly new roof from plastic card and parts from my spare box, replaced the tracks with T-55 tracks from Friul, added a Jordi Rubio barrel and replaced some of the tools with Tamiya ones. I also reworked most of the welding seams as I wanted the model to have a lot thicker armor plates than the original Trumpeter version has. You can see most of the changed and altered parts on the unpainted model. The wooden "skirts" (not installed on the WIP-pic) were also made from plastic card, the starantenna is from Schatton Modellbau, the normal 2m antenna is from Armorscale.

At first I had a hard edged 3 tone camouflage in mind but then I decided to go for green only as I think it would be easier and faster to apply by the factories (and by me too ;)) and it's also not often seen on german tanks from WW2.
Weathering was done with pigments, Vallejo acrylics and artist oils, business as usual.

Pantherturm auf O.T.-Stahlunterstand Typ D

Due to my lack of motivation during the last month I wasn't very productive.

But as it seems the motivation is coming back so I thought I should start with a nice simple kit.

I chose Armorscale's superb "Pantherstellung" (C48-001), my first 1/48-kit.

The kit itself contains 6 well casted resin parts, and an excellent turned metal barrel.

The construction was done in one day, I only replaced some broken parts with plastic sheet, added a few weld seams and rough steel surface on the turret sides and the Stahlunterstand.

I wanted the Stahlunterstand to have a rusty finish (although I'm not quite sure if this is realistic but well...) while the turret should be dark yellow with a camouflaged barrel (maybe "borrowed" from an old Panther tank).

Painting was done with Tamiya acrylics for the base coat, Vallejo acrylics for the chipping, oil colors and pigments were used for the weathering.

The Stahlunterstand's rusty finish was achieved with several layers of dark brown and orange followed by a layer of hairspray. Then I sprayed a thin layer of light grey onto it and removed parts of it again with a stiff brush and warm water. Oil colors were used for the rusty streaks on the sides and the dots on the top. After the oils dried completely I dusted the Stahlunterstand with the same pigments as the turret.

I think it's finished to about 95%, I still have to paint the periscope and make a few touch ups here and there, maybe I will also add a camouflage net to the barrel.

A small vignette will follow later, although I'm not the biggest fan of building vignettes I think the Pantherstellung definatly needs one.

Slow and horrible, please!

Wer kennt sie nicht, die berühmte suicide booth aus Futurama.

Als kleine Nebenbeschäftigung baue ich mir seit einiger Zeit eine eben solche nach, allerdings strebe ich keine 1:1 Umsetzung an, sondern werde einige Details ändern, wobei die wesentlichen Merkmale erhalten bleiben sollen. Meine suicide booth könnte ja eine aus dem Jahr 2950 sein und nicht eine aus dem Jahr 3000.

Bis jetzt entstand alles zu 100% scratch aus Plastiksheet, verschiedenen Plastikprofilen, Spachtel- und Modelliermasse.

Ich denke momentan ist sie zu etwa 80% fertig, wie man sieht fehlen noch die runden Eckverstärkungen und es muss auch noch einiges gespachtelt und geschliffen werden.

Pz.Kpfw. IV J - Teil 2

Weiter geht's am Pz.Kpfw. IV!

Auch wenn sich nur Kleinigkeiten geändert haben dachte ich mir es wird Zeit für neue Bilder.

Ob "Lustmolch" das direkte Vorbild bleibt weiß ich noch nicht, da ich mittlerweile Erfahren habe, dass dieser mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit, wie leider schon vermutet, Zimmerit trug und ich eigentlich ohne auskommen wollte. Na mal sehen wie sich das Entwickelt.

"Lustmolch"

Ich habe ein neues Projekt angefangen, da ich am E-25 momentan nicht so recht weiterkomme. Es ist Tamiyas Pz.Kpfw. IV J und da er nur zum Spaß zwischendurch gebaut wird habe ich mich entschlossen auf käufliches Zubehör zu verzichten und nur minimal mit vorhandenen Mitteln nachzudetaillieren.

Wie man sieht nicht sonderlich spektakulär, aber ab und an muss auch mal was einfaches dazwischen.

Er soll einmal ungefähr so aussehen, wie auf dem Foto unten, allerdings lehne ich mich nur daran an, es wird keine 1:1 Umsetzung.

E-25 Ausf. D 1946

Eine kleine Vorschau auf mein nächstes Projekt: Trumpeters E-25 in einer mehr oder weniger modifizierten Form, wie er vielleicht hätte gebaut werden können.

Der Rohbau ist noch nicht abgeschlossen, es fehlen noch etliche Details und Schweißnähte, doch es ist schon zu erkennen, in welche Richtung es gehen wird.

"Oblt. Lieben"

Es ist geschafft! Das Geschütz "Oblt. Lieben", geführt von Georg Bose ist - von einer Figur abgesehen - fertig. Viel hat sich nicht mehr getan, ein paar Pigmente kamen noch dazu, ein Satz Skier und etwas Ölfarbearbeit war auch noch zu verrichten.

Abschließend kann ich sagen, dass ich mit meiner ersten Wintertarnung sehr zufrieden bin, auch wenn sicherlich einiges besser gemacht hätte werden können. Hätte, wäre, wenn... ich kann mit dem Ergebnis gut leben und ich hoffe euch gefällt das Geschütz auch!
